Ciputra Group has been in business for more than 40 years and it was founded by the late Dr. (HC) Ir. Ciputra and his family. Mr. Ciputra was an Indonesian property figure who founded the Indonesian Real Estate Association (REI) and led to the birth of large real estate corporations such as Jaya Group and Metropolitan Group. Today, Ciputra Group which focuses on large-scale property development, has successfully diversified its business into other sectors including office buildings, shopping malls, hotels, apartments, recreational facilities, education, health, insurance, agriculture, arts, and property brokerage. This makes Ciputra Group the largest and most diversified business group in terms of products, geographical location, and market segmentation. Professionalism and Entrepreneurship that ensure sustainable development of the community and the nation.
As the first project developed in 1984, CitraGarden City Jakarta has grown to become a sustainable township. It features a large commercial area, recreational facilities, water treatment plant, open public spaces, Family Club, health and sports facilities, traditional and modern markets, and schools. The success of CitraGarden City has motivated Ciputra Group to develop another city-scale housing project in Surabaya called CitraLand and also the first commercial project of Ciputra Mall and Hotel in Jakarta. In 1990 PT Citra Habitat Indonesia has been renamed to PT Ciputra Development.

In 1994 PT Ciputra Development announced its initial public offering and was listed on the Jakarta Stock Exchange. In the same year, CitraRaya Tangerang was officially launched as the largest city-scale project with an area of 2,760 hectares. In 2004 Ciputra Group has expanded its business outside of Java through the CitraLand Banjarmasin project in South Kalimantan and CitraGarden Bandar Lampung in South Sumatra in 2005. In 2009 Ciputra Group set its footprint in Sulawesi through the CitraLand Celebes in Makassar. In 2011 Ciputra Group entered the Health Care business by inaugurating the Ciputra Hospital in CitraRaya Tangerang. In 2015, Ciputra Group has made a breakthrough using reclaiming techniques in CitraLand City Losari Makassar in South Sulawesi.
Ciputra University in Surabaya was the first academic institution created exclusively to focus on entrepreneurship education.
